Special Needs

Baptcare's flexible approach to care delivery means it can provide clients with personalised care that recognises and respects the cultural needs of each person.

To ensure our staff provide culturally sensitive care they are required to attend ongoing cultural training. Baptcare has also developed a number of close working relationships and Memorandums of Understanding with many different cultural groups, designed to enable staff to best meet client needs. Where possible, Baptcare ensures staff are bilingual or have access to interpreters when necessary.

The Commonwealth Government has identified a number of 'Special Needs Groups' in Community Aged Care. These include:

  • people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • people who live in rural and remote areas
  • people who are financially and socially disadvantaged
  • veterans

Baptcare has also committed to adding the areas of dementia and depression to the special needs portfolio with the ongoing development of links with Alzheimer's Australia Victoria and a partnership with beyondblue.

beyondblue

Visit beyondblue's website for information on depression, the effective treatments available and how to help someone. The website also includes beyondblue’s fact sheet on depression in older people, which you can print or order.

Alzheimers Australia

In a wonderful intiative by Alzheimer's Australia, a number of 'dementia help sheets' have been translated into 17 languages to assist those who speak languages other than English. Visit the Alzheimer's Australia website today to download these information sheets.
