Pastoral Care / Chaplaincy

The Pastoral Care team is made up of the Pastoral Care Coordinator and chaplains at each of our facilities, including Abercare Family Services, and in a growing number of areas in which we provide aged care in the community.

The Christian ministry of pastoral care provided by our team of chaplains is a vital part of Baptcare’s commitment to caring for the whole person. We are convinced that without attention to a person’s spiritual needs, as well as their physical, social and emotional needs, the care we provide would not be complete, or ‘holistic’.

The ministry of pastoral care is provided with the intention, and in the hope, that it conveys a reminder of God’s love and grace, and that nothing can separate us from God's love in Christ.

We are committed to the value and dignity of every person in the sight of God, and therefore the chaplaincy team offers support to care-recipients of Baptcare’s various programs and their families, regardless of religious affiliation.

Chaplains offer spiritual support and comfort through prayer, pastoral counselling, and by helping people to connect with spiritual resources especially, though not only, at times of distress, loss and grief. By providing a listening presence they can help people explore and express deep questions and concerns. They also help to address people’s faith needs by providing opportunities for worship.

Chaplains also provide general, confidential pastoral support for Baptcare staff. In addition Baptcare also provides employees with a free and confidential counselling service, available from Karinya Counselling Centres, Baptcare’s Employee Assistance Program provider.
