Last week Christopher Pyne, the Minister for Aging, announced in an award ceremony in Canberra that Baptcare had won one of nine Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care in the category of ‘Training and Staff Development’.
As the owner and operator of local residential aged care facility, St Hilary’s, the award places the facility at the forefront of excellence, dedication and innovation in aged care delivery.
Baptcare was selected as the winner of the Training and Staff Development category from over 140 nominations across a range of categories.
“Given the number and calibre of nominations received Australia wide, this represents an absolutely outstanding achievement which we are very proud of,” said Vincent Bucci, Acting Chief Executive.
Baptcare’s training and staff development program showcases and delivers a contemporary array of educational programs and activities. It is aimed specifically at meeting the specialised needs of the staff working in this unique field. The program assists all staff to have the necessary skills and knowledge, to optimise the care and lifestyle of elderly residents who live in our residential aged care homes.
The program includes formal and informal education sessions, practical workshops, study days, discussion groups, fact sheets, posters, videos, dvds, guest speakers, conferences, and the recent launch of the Baptcare intranet site.
The program is conducted across Baptcare’s six residential sites. All programs are based on current knowledge and evidence of best practice, and are evaluated for effectiveness.
The $10,000 in prize money will be used to conduct education programs on aged care related nursing, care and lifestyle topics and to fund clinical projects that directly translate to improving the knowledge and practical care of elderly residents.
