An old Canterbury Mansion began a $25m new lease on life when building works began to reinvent it as a residential aged care facility in June 2006. Building works have been progressing as planned for the last year, and are due to be complete in 12 months.
Victorian not-for-profit Baptcare purchased ‘Linda’, an Italianate style mansion and the surrounding land at 19 Canterbury Road, Canterbury, from the Uniting Church in 1998.
The project has two main types of living - independent living apartments which are to be sold, and a residential aged care facility for older people requiring more assistance.
Baptcare CEO Jeff Davey says, “we are extremely excited about this development. Now that building works have commenced, we are one step closer to being able to care for more aged Victorians in need.”
The building works will keep the splendour of the original building but will also include additional structures to maximise use of land space and to provide care to more older Victorians.
