Families Needed to Help Families in the Northwest

In an exciting new initiative in Melbourne’s Northwest region, seven children with a disability (aged between 6 and twelve) can now access respite care in the homes of caregivers, through Abercare’s HomeStay Program.

The program comes as a welcome relief given the high demand for respite programs that are currently weighed down by extensive waiting lists, but more carers are urgently needed to make the program a success.

Carers would be carefully matched with a child, and would need to commit up to 56 nights and 28 days of respite care per year. The carer receives a tax free allowance of up to $7,000 per year in return for this commitment.
