In a bid to keep older adults connected to the community and decrease depression Baptcare has introduced a program stimulating body and mind for vulnerable older adults from the City of Kingston and City of Glen Eira.

Available through Southaven Day Centre, the Happy Wanderers Nature program is designed to encourage social interaction, independence and body movement through weekly visits to parks, gardens and walking tracks.

“It’s a sad reality that there is a clear service shortage for the elderly who face adverse obstacles,” Acting Chief Executive, Mr Michael Wilson said. “Social isolation and depression are growing concerns among the frail and we are committed to alleviating such concerns through tailored ongoing support programs.”

Southaven provides out of home socialisation, respite and support opportunities for frail older people, people with disabilities and their carers.

Admission to the program is dependant on an individual’s suitability for the type of program being operated.
