Ten years ago we embarked on a building project that has seen major re-developments completed at each of our six Victorian residential aged care facilities. This project reflects our commitment to creating residential ‘facilities of excellence’ for our elderly, and we are thrilled to announce that it is almost complete.
The development of St Hilary’s Community in Morwell was finished in August, and the final facility to undergo development, Hedley Sutton, is just weeks away from opening.
St Hilary’s residents move back home
We are thrilled to announce that the re-development of St Hilary’s Community in Morwell was finished in August, allowing residents to move back home that same month. The new facility was officially opened on 11th September 2008.
Residents had been temporarily transferred to the former St Lawrence Private Nursing Home for some peace and quiet while the facility was re-built from the ground up.
The development has made way for an additional 21 beds, which will help ease pressure on waiting lists in the local area. St Hilary’s is currently the only high care facility in Morwell, and is perfectly situated to ensure that residents have easy access to community activities such as shopping, the RSL, the local rose garden and the art gallery.
Style, grace and dignity for Hedley Sutton residents
After two years of construction the new Hedley Sutton Community is close to completion, with residents set to move in during October. The new facility has been built around Linda, a heritage listed Italianate style mansion built in 1870, which was purchased by Baptcare in 1998.
The development has two types of living: independent living apartments, which are currently being sold; and a residential aged care facility for older people requiring assistance.
While the heritage listed property created design challenges for the site’s re-development team, they were solved by much of the mansion being refurbished to provide amenities such a lounge with a grand piano, a library and a café for the residents of the independent living units.
The building works have kept the splendour of the original building but have allowed for additional structures to maximise the use of land space and to provide care to a greater number of older Victorians.
Hedley Sutton has been designed to provide a sense of belonging, stylish independent living options and a welcoming space for residents and their families. The new community has been created with the needs of residents foremost in mind, and will include a hairdresser, cafe, chapel, multipurpose rooms and landscaped outdoor areas.
We are looking forward to opening the doors at the new facility in October!
