With the help of volunteers from local Churches, Baptcare's facility in Brunswick that will become home to 20 asylum seekers has received a fresh coat of paint and a good clean.
Each January the Baptist Union of Victoria runs an 'Urban Summer' week where teams from Churches across Victoria volunteer in the community. This year Baptcare was lucky enough to have five teams visit their premises in Brunswick which will provide supported accommodation to 20 asylum seekers in March.
Over 50 volunteers visited the site during the week united with a common cause - to make a difference in their community. Painting, cleaning, sanding, gardening, scrubbing - you name it, the Urban Summer volunteers worked on it.
A week's worth of work from these generous volunteers has helped transform the facility into a welcoming haven for its new residents.
Thanks to all who donated their time.
The facility will be officially opened in April 2008.
